Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has surpassed Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ net worth.

“Elon Musk has become the richest person in the world as his net worth exceeded $ 185 billion (£ 136 billion),” the BBC reported on Thursday.

The futuristic businessman gained dizzying wealth last year. Musk started 2020 with a value of about $ 27 billion, and was barely in the top 50 richest people, CNBC noted on Thursday, adding:

“Tesla’s skyrocketing stock price – which has risen more than nine-fold in the past year – along with its generous pay package have added more than $ 150 billion to its net worth.”

After the COVID-19 crash in MarchTesla found his stock priced nearly $ 70, based on data from TradingView.com. By 2021, TSLA shares made their way above $ 800 apiece, whatever takes take into account a stock split in August 2020.

Musk is also no stranger to the crypto industry, though he hasn’t emerged as a strong supporter of the asset class. “Bitcoin is almost as good as fiat money,” said Tesla’s CEO said in a December 2020 Twitter post.

Musk only owns 0.25 Bitcoin (BTC), from his most recently published comment about his holdings, listed in May 2020. He also commented on Dogecoin (DOGE) Bee various points in the past, in a probably comical way.

Michael Saylor, MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin bull, recently offered to help the tech visionary when picking up some BTC for Tesla.
