After just over two years of development, a new form of gambling will be released to the Ethereum world on mainnet on Sunday: hamster-powered marble racing.
Powered by Mia, a female djungarian or “winter white dwarf” hamster and her trusty hamster wheel, the project, dubbed “Mia & the Marbles”, is an automated marble racing and betting platform from a group of independent developers.
While the concept behind the project … seems erratic, the development team for ‘M&M’ revealed in an interview with Cointelegraph just how carefully the racing platform has been thought out.
“We guarantee races that are demonstrably fair, demonstrably live and easily verifiable,” said the developers. “We can guarantee that the races take place in real time and are not pre-registered. We do this with our demonstrably live video stream that physically shows the first 8 bits of the current Ethereum blockhash on the race track with 8 movable pegs. A high pin represents a 1, a low pin a 0. “
The team says there is also a refund feature for races that don’t return a valid result after two days.
While Mia & the Marbles may come to life as a thought experiment or a hackathon moonshot to some, the developers say M&M is inspired by a passion for demonstrably fair gaming.
“We have always loved the idea of blockchain gambling projects. But unfortunately, scams are not uncommon in the low-regulated crypto space, ”the team said. “So we were brainstorming ideas with the goal of making the demonstrable justice component understandable for everyone while being fun!”
As a colleague, the developers report that Mia is great. There was a rough patch in the beginning – when she was a puppy, Mia enjoyed nibbling the developer’s fingers – but nowadays she’s always ready to produce. While many protocols managed by DAOs have to worry about incentive structures and the possibility that another protocol could take away their talent through fusionMia enjoys running her wheel up to 8 kilometers a day.
“Hamsters are very active by nature and travel long distances at night to gather food,” explained the development team.
In the future, there will be more well-developed courses and possible ‘championship’ brackets for the marbles, and the developers eventually plan to build further on fun, fair games on Ethereum.
“We strongly believe that adding real-world randomness to crypto gambling solutions can dramatically increase player confidence in these products. We want to contribute to a just world. ”
